The mission of the Wake AHEC is to increase the knowledge, skills, resources, diversity and distribution of healthcare providers and the mission of WakeMed is to provide outstanding and compassionate care to all who seek their services. The Wake AHEC CME mission flows from the mission of the Wake AHEC and WakeMed. The mission of the CME Program is to increase the use of evidenced-based content to improve the competence, performance, or patient outcomes by our target audience of physicians and healthcare professionals who reside or work in the nine-county region. The specific purpose of CME at the Wake AHEC is to improve health care for both individual patients and populations by providing excellent, evidenced-based information, outcomes-oriented education or performance improvement activities to physicians and other healthcare professionals in our service area. The content areas that we primarily offer are clinical topics for primary care and selected specialty physicians. The types of CME activities that we provide are live, enduring materials and practice improvement. Furthermore, we engage with hospitals in our region in order to connect education with local hospital quality initiatives. The expected results of our CME activities are to increase physicians and healthcare team members’ knowledge and competence and to produce learners who apply content from the educational activities to improve performance and patient outcomes in their practice settings.
