Webinar (Recorded) - Multiple Sclerosis: Cognitive Dysfunction and the Professional Challenges

Description:  ** Vimeo Webcast ** - This webinar discusses the cognitive changes that occur in more than sixty percent of people with MS, and describes their impact on self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and employment. Common problems related to learning and memory, attention and concentration, information processing, and executive functions are described, along with strategies for assessment and management. Vignettes are provided to illustrate the impact of cognitive changes on everyday life and offer tips and strategies for patients and family members. Part two of this webinar describes the unique aspects of working with this interesting and challenging population, many of whom would never have wanted or needed to consult a mental health professional has they not been diagnosed with a chronic illness. The ways in which a mental health professional may need to adapt his or her style and/or practice to address a patient’s physical limitations and/or cognitive impairments are discussed, as well as issues associated with treating a person whose MS-related challenges ebb and flow over decades.
