Description:  This two-day workshop focuses on areas of knowledge to be tested on the Inpatient Obstetric Nursing Certification examination.

Audience:  Nurses preparing for the Inpatient Obstetric Certification Exam, nurses orienting and cross-training to inpatient obstetrical units and nurses returning to obstetrical practice

Objectives:  1. Identify biological, physiological, psychological and sociocultural changes that affect the status of the mother and newborn.
  2. Evaluate a fetal heart tracing and needed nursing interventions.
  3. Develop a comprehensive plan for individualized nursing care for a laboring woman.
  4. Discuss appropriate nursing actions for selected obstetric complications.
  5. Differentiate normal versus abnormal nursing assessments for a woman in the postpartum period.
  6. Describe normal newborn adaptations to extrauterine life.
  7. Apply current standards of practice and ethical principles to professional perinatal nursing practice.
