Description:  Urology is the integration of surgical activities for the genitourinary system, primarily for the treatment of obstructions, dysfunction, malignancies, and inflammatory diseases. In recent years, Urologic Surgery has been revolutionized by advances in urodynamic diagnostic systems and minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy,endoscopic examination, implantation procedures,and advanced imaging techniques. The UNC Division of Urologic Surgery offers this educational activity to physicians and other health care providers in the Southeast as an opportunity for attendees to update their knowledge and skills to the newest standards and guidelines in the field.

Objectives:  1. Discuss recent evidence regarding PSA screening and how it may affect current and future care of patients with prostate cancer.
  2. Describe the role of lymphadenectomy in the surgical management of bladder cancer.
  3. Review recent advances in the treatment of advanced bladder cancer.
  4. Assess recent changes to the evaluation of a pediatric patient with a UTI.
  5. Discuss updates in radiation as a treatment for prostate cancer.
  6. Review new options for the treatment/management of small renal cell carcinoma.
  7. Discuss renal cell carcinoma drug development.
  8. List issues facing physicians and patients in the developing world of major surgery.
  9. Recognize new options for management of nephrolithiasis.
  10. Discuss utilization of non-physician care provided in the urologic office.
  11. Relate survivorship issues in the testicular cancer patient.
