* Closed * - Looking Beneath the Surface: Recognizing and Responding to Human Trafficking in North Carolina

Description:  Human Trafficking continues to be a widespread crime in the United States as well as in North Carolina. While our ability to recognize signs of and understand factors leading to human trafficking have improved over the last several years, there is still much room for improvement with regards to interventions and collaboration among stakeholders. This conference seeks to explore the current state of Human Trafficking in North Carolina, increase provider cultural competency when working with people who have experienced human trafficking, and assist providers in identifying resources in the community that can be beneficial when working with survivors. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn from, with, and about each other’s roles in working with human trafficking cases, ultimately improving communication, cohesiveness and collaboration.

Objectives:  1. Recognize signs and symptoms of individuals who have experienced human trafficking.
  2. Identify current state of human tracking in North Carolina.
  3. Explain culturally competent approaches when working with survivors.
  4. Identify resources in the community that are be beneficial when working with individuals who have experienced human trafficking.
  5. Discuss challenges of each member involved in the care of human trafficked survivors and how they can work together to improve outcomes.
