Webinar (Recorded) - Multiple Sclerosis: What You Need to Know and the Emotional Challenges

Description:  ** Vimeo Webcast ** - Part A) This webinar provides an introduction to multiple sclerosis for mental health professionals, including what is currently known about possible causes of MS, who gets it, and the prognosis. The MS disease courses are described, as well the symptoms that can occur. The components of comprehensive MS care – including relapse and symptom management, rehabilitation to enhance or maintain function, and psychosocial support – are explained, and participants are introduced to the healthcare professionals on the comprehensive care team. Part B) This webinar introduces mental health professionals to the psychosocial challenges confronting individuals and families at the time of diagnosis, as the disease transitions from a relapsing course to a more steadily progressive one, and when and if the disease becomes severely disabling. Additional highlights of this webinar include the role of grieving, the diagnosis and management of depression, which can be both a reaction to life with MS and a symptom of the disease, the diagnosis and management of other mood changes that can occur, and the impact of this chronic, unpredictable disease on family, relationships, and employment.
