Description:  ** Vimeo Webcast ** - This webinar will provide a broad foundation for early childhood professionals in the area of ASD. This will include discussion of estimated prevalence, etiology, signs and symptoms, introduction to diagnostic criteria for children birth to 5 and early social and behavioral features of our youngest at-risk children. Resources for developmental monitoring and screening will be shared.

Audience:  Psychologists, licensed professional counselors, social workers, early interventionists, special education professionals, child service coordinators, child care workers, physical, occupational, and speech and language pathology therapists, parents of children with special needs, and all those working with children ages birth to five.

Objectives:  1. Recognize the early ‘red flags’ in children at risk for ASD.
  2. Discuss the diagnostic criteria for ASD and how these characteristics may manifest in young children.
  3. Discuss the evidence-based tools used for developmental and ASD-specific screening in early childhood.
  4. Identify the pathways for referral and resources for children who fail screening measures in early childhood.
  5. List diagnostic criteria as applicable to young children.
  6. List tools that can be used in assessment of early ASD symptoms.
  7. List three features that distinguish ASD from language disorders and sensory processing disorder.
  8. Describe core features of evidence-based practices that could be used to support the learning of toddlers and preschoolers with ASD.
  9. Identify resources available for learning how to use the 27 evidence-based, focused intervention practices.
  10. Describe a process for selecting, implementing, and monitoring the implementation of evidence-based practices to address IFSP outcomes and IEP goals.
