Wake AHEC and Continuing Education Credit
Wake AHEC
partners with healthcare organizations throughout our region to
plan continuing education events earning a variety of types of
CE credit – CEUs, CME, CNE, ACPE, Category A Contact Hours for
Psychologists, etc. The education specialists at Wake AHEC would
be happy to talk with you about an event you are planning. We
can partner with you formally or just share our knowledge about
credit processes.
What types of events earn CE credit?
All accrediting bodies differ in their requirements for credit.
Only through a conversation can we determine what types of
credit your event could earn. In general continuing education
events share these things in common:
 |
They are
formally planned. |
 |
They have
specific dates and times.
|
 |
They are
led by an expert, the instructor. |
 |
They are
designed for the scope of practice of specific target
audiences. |
 |
The
teaching methods can reasonably achieve the behavioral
learning objectives. |
 |
And
generally events like business meetings, self-help groups,
clinical supervision groups, and entertainment programs do
not earn credit. |
What
is the first step in planning a continuing education event with
credit?
 |
Call one
of the education specialists at Wake AHEC (below) to discuss
your project at least 60 days before the event. In the case
of CME, ASHA or Pharmacy programs, calling 90 days
beforehand is important. In any case, it is best to call
before you have begun planning the event. Some types of
credit require that a Wake AHEC educator be part of the
planning from the very beginning. |
What
is the process for obtaining continuing education credit?
 |
Call
first because some types of credit are not available once
you have begun your planning. Some types of credit can be
“applied for” from AHEC; others cannot. Next, you may be
required to complete a CE application that includes the
course description, learning objectives, an agenda, and
speaker information as well as other course information. An
Education Specialist will provide the forms you will need to
complete and can assist you as needed. Once the application
has been complete and all forms have been returned to the
Education Specialist, the application will be reviewed for
approval. The Education Specialist will notify you regarding
the status of your application. |
What does it cost to work with AHEC?
 |
Fees vary
depending on which AHEC services we provide and what types
of credit an event earns. AHEC prides itself on providing
the highest quality and most affordable continuing
education. |
