North Carolina's Healthcare Articulation Programs...

North Carolina's Nursing Education Articulation Plan

North Carolina is implementing a statewide RN-to-BSN Articulation Plan to assure that our state has the nursing resources it will require. This plan was devised to help North Carolina Registered Nurses with an associate degree or diploma earn a higher degree in nursing with the goal of creating a seamless state-wide approach to make higher education more accessible to Registered Nurses.

The articulation plan directly addresses the wide variability in university and nursing program requirements related to transfer credits and general education courses, and recognizes that education should build on previous skills and learning without duplication of past educational experiences.

The North Carolina Center for Nursing was awarded a two-year nursing articulation grant by the Helene Fuld Health Trust 2001 Educational Mobility Initiative. The vision for this plan is:

"To create a seamless articulation model for North Carolina's nursing education programs such that registered nurses who desire to further their education are assured that previous learning and work experiences are valued and formally recognized."
