Program Information

Title: Physicians Championing Healthcare Improvement

Description: This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed for physicians who have been asked or who seek to champion healthcare improvement through the use of quality improvement processes in their office or hospital settings. Participating physicians will be asked to apply the techniques to their own healthcare improvement efforts and report back their successes and moments of learning in a follow-up one-hour webinar near the end of September. Registration fee includes dinner on 8/27 at the Renaissance-Raleigh Hotel at North Hills. Guests may attend the dinner for an additional $75. A block of rooms at the Renaissance-Raleigh Hotel at North Hills has been reserved under NCMS for $129/night through 8/17/10, and can be reserved by calling 919.571.8773. This program is made possible through support from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation and the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation.

Audience: Physicians with an interest in healthcare quality improvement

2. Discuss key components in quality improvement.

3. Apply the Model for Improvement in a simulated quality improvement activity to include a review of aim statements, three types of measures, PDSA cycles, and plotted data.

4. Describe the importance of data collection, analysis, and using data to drive change.

5. Discuss the roles, membership, and process for building an effective quality improvement team.

6. Describe the key role that physicians play in improving healthcare delivery.

7. Identify challenges the physician leader faces and strategies to overcome those challenges.

8. Discuss each learner's application of the above.
