Title: HIPAA and Confidentiality for the Dental Team

Description: Please note: This program was rescheduled from July 30 to Dec. 17, 2010. This course is a comprehensive review of the laws governing confidentiality in the electronic age. It also offers common sense tips for avoiding pitfalls in complying with those laws.

Objectives: 1. Describe the federal rules governing patient confidentiality.

2. Identify exceptions to the general confidentiality rules, such as child abuse, adult abuse, AIDS formation, workers compensation claims, and other state statutes.

3. Discuss how to handle requests for information from patients, family, law enforcement, the courts and others.
